Portland celebrates the worst day of the year on February 15. According to jaunted.com, supporters of The Worst Day of The Year Ride, “the city flooded on this date 13 years ago, and way before that, recorded its lowest temperature ever, negative 54 degrees.” Although these weather facts cannot be confirmed, and instead find that the lowest temperature recorded in Portland was -3° on February 2, 1950, it cannot be argued that February can produce some treacherous winter weather.
This year, the 18-mile ride will take place on Sunday, February 12. Promoted as “Portland’s favorite wacky winter ride,” participants are encouraged to dress in costume and prizes for costuming will be awarded at the finish line. Over 4,000 participants are expected to join the fun. This event is expected to roll along regardless of prevailing weather conditions.
